We're going to try to venture out this morning and spend some small portion of our Christmas money on storage. My hope is to put all the nice things the children got for Christmas into boxes that are very difficult for them to open so they can never mess up the house. Just kidding, sort of. We do seriously have to weed through what they already have to make way for all the new stuff. So that's my project for the week.
And I also intend a serious materials making day. I actually want to paint a lot of little boxes for my Sunday School kids for Epiphany, with a verse or something inside. We'll see how it goes.
And I'm also settling on my new years resolutions. I think I've settled on three that are achievable.
1. I'm going to loose the weight of 2 babies plus.
2. I'm going to pray and read the bible 5 days out of 7 (of course, 7 would be better, but if I make it to 5, then I can aim for 7)
3. I'm going to read 6 books. And I welcome suggestions on the books.
And now I'm going to go stand at the window and watch Matt and E and A shovel snow and thank God for men and children.

Anne,
When you talk about making materials for Sunday School, it makes me wonder: Are you using the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd? Or something similar? If you have posts in the archives that tell about it, I'd love to read them! (Email me the URL's, when you get a chance?)
My top suggestion for the book list, if you haven't read it yet, is Gilead by Marilynne Robinson!

Anne - My suggestions for books are either Letters to a Diminished Church by Dorothy Sayers, or Creed to Chaos, also by Dorothy Sayers. Both are a collection of essays on belief and the Church.
Correction -- Creed or Chaos - why it matters what you believe - by Dorothy Sayers
Oooh, sounds like another catechist out there! It is a terrific program, isn't it.
My suggestion for a book for this year is: Face to Face with God, by Bill Johnson, Bethel Church in Redding, CA.
Christie
If you need any non-Christian, fiction suggestions for books, I've got plenty. :)
some poetry for you, anne:
louise gluck's book ararat.
i have it and you may borrow it when i remember.
Jeanne-Yes!! Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. I have posts all over. I'll try to dig through slowly to find the links. Remind me of where you're hoping to move? I'm blanking as I sit here, but strangely enough, one of my classmates (from the program I quit) is from wherever it is that you're moving (seriously, its on the tip of my tongue). I was in a MA program centered around Catechesis.
Polly, by all means, non Christian fiction. What do you have in mind? Although, I seem to remember being a lot fussier than you.
Hi Anne--
Sorry, it took me a few days to get back, but here I am! It is Kenosha, WI, we're moving to. Is your friend at the Episcopal church there? Using the Catechesis?
Don't worry about locating the posts in your archives. Now that I know what to look for, I can Google or use the Blogger search engine.
I've just been introduced to the program, and now find it popping up all over. And since we're in the baby stages, it's a good time to investigate options. I keep hearing good things, except for how much training and prep is required to begin it. Let me know about your friend!
