RIP

I should be getting ready for school, but I wanted to offer a grief and tribute to our dog, Maggie, who died on Tuesday. She was 16 and spry until the weekend when she suddenly stopped eating.

I figured out this week that Matt found Maggie about a year before he devoted his life to Jesus. I came on the scene a few years after that. Certainly she's been here to greet and welcome each of our children as we've had them. Her absence is everywhere in this house and we are all wretched in grief.

I can't htink about her without tears right now. I hope yesterday helped all of you. She was with Matt from the beginning and at one point (right before he met Anne) he had decided life would be just fine with just him and Maggie...girls were way too complicated!!! You see what happened shortly after that declaration. The three of them made the start of a happy family!

Losing an animal friend is always wrenching. Please accept the condolences of a stranger.

I lost my beloved Bogart about seven years ago, and while I love my two pups Lenny and CoCo, I still deeply grieve his loss. Maggie was a member of your family. I'm sure your grief is inconsolable right now. May your faith be a source of solace and comfort to you.

Our pets do indeed model faithfulness for us. My condolences to your entire family. Of course there will be animals in heaven! And if animals, then our pets are certainly included in that. Scripture confirms it.

Isaiah 11:6-9
6And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them.
7Also the cow and the bear will graze,Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den.
9They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.

Maggie taught me something about patience and quietness, and gentleness and steady faith, and I now realize what a privilege it was to do things for her, even just moving the rugs around for her so she could get across your slippery new floors. When I come I'll find something for your garden to plant with her name on it. ME

It is a sad reality that freeing a beloved pet from pain leaves one in even worse pain, albeit a different kind. I hope it gives you comfort to know the empty feeling will be replaced with your loving memories of Maggie.

My deepest sympathies. We too have lost beloved pets over the years and it always leaves a big hole in a family.
