I can't really blog because

I have a rich and bubbly cold and can't think very far about anything except the fact that I'm profoundly unready for school tomorrow. Not only do I have nothing to say but I haven't been reading anything either
EXCEPT
for Simcha Fisher
who is so funny I have just spent the last ten minutes weeping real tears of laughter. I commend to you her latest post, but also her important and immortal thoughts about the Little Drummer Boy. In particular, point number six
"6.  What is it with this song?  “Little drummer boy?”  What little drummer boy?  You played your drums for a newborn?  Par-rum-pa-pum-what? What kind of drum makes that sound?  100% terrible!  There is nothing and no one that can make this song listenable.  My stars."
I read this moments before hearing Scott Simon (I think--the days are sewn seamlessly together) weeping first about the beauty and sacredness of I'm dreaming of a white Christmas (I kid you not) and then about his 'favorite' holiday song of all time...that's right, the Little Drummer Boy.

I never did like that song. Another good reason to stay away from shopping malls this year.

I can understand not liking the song, but it sure is fun to sing when you're a little kid. I remember a bunch of my friends just belting it out in the school yard during recess, great emphasis on the bah-rum-pum-pum-pum chorus

I'm sure it really helped expend all that pre-Christmas excitement, and tired us up enough to render us more amenable to behaving ourselves and doing our classwork.

My dear, I left you a FB message but I'm not sure you're checking that, so I thought I should post here. I need your snail mail address so I can send you a book. :)

Oh dear. You don't think the Drummer Boy song is one of the best in the world? This might come as a shock to you, but while you were sleeping last year and your two, three, even four small children were regularly joining me upstairs in the early morning for tea and videos on my computer, the utube video they most wanted to see (besides the Canadian with a large grizzly bear for a pet) was Charlotte Church singing "The Drummer Boy". We watched it every morning for weeks, sometimes more than once. ME

White Christmas was written by a Jewish guy in New York City who never experienced any of the things in the song.

I think almost everyone who can remember sleighbells in the snow must have passed away by now. But...I wish I did. I remember reading about them...I think in Farmer Boy. The area of my brain devoted to nostalgia must be very large because I am just the type of audience the Jewish guy cynically designed this song for!
